Read Great Books

Not all ideas are created equal, and the same applies to books. Some books are simply books, while some are truly great.

Great books can guide our morals, enhance our understanding, and broaden our perspective beyond ourselves. They can stretch our minds, speak across cultures and generations, and challenge our value system.

All books chosen for the JSU groups are evaluated to ensure their expressed ideas can help examine our lives, further our growth, and serve others meaningfully when put into action.

Check out some of our favorite JSU books below!

  • From “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau

“Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth. I sat at a table where were rich food and wine in abundance, and obsequious attendance, but sincerity and truth were not; and I went away hungry from the inhospitable board.”

  • From “The Effective Executive: The Definitive Guide to Getting the Right Things Done” by Peter F. Drucker

“The most common cause of executive failure is inability or unwillingness to change with the demands of a new position.”

  • From “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis

“The right direction leads not only to peace but to knowledge. When a man is getting better, he understands more and more clearly the evil that is still left in him. When a man is getting worse, he understands his own badness less and less.”
